Batman is a licensed theme of LEGO building sets based on the comics, films, and cartoons featuring the DC Comics character, Batman. The theme ran from 2005 - 2008. In 2011 Batman sets were re-introduced as part of the new Super Heroes theme.

The sets feature vehicles, characters and scenes based on their standard accepted appearances in the comics. Most major villains and a few heroes such as Nightwing, Robin and Alfred made appearances in the sets, usually paired with vehicles such as Joker's helicopter, Penguin's submarine and Scarecrow's biplane.

Batman was given a wide range of vehicles, their appearances resembling their more common portrayals. An original vehicle, the "Batman Dragster", was also been introduced. The Batmobile was similar in appearance to the Batmobile in the1989 film, while the Batboat took on a hovercraft-like form. All the set-boxes featured a comic strip by artist Greg Hyland at the back, featuring stylised versions of the set in action.

Notable Batman LEGO in the Media

The first Batman LEGO Fan Film to hit the internet circuit was the 2003 fan film production Batman: Revenge (The Batman LEGO Film), although it did not utilize any of the official products as it was created nearly three years before the official line was released. Official films include the Cartoon Network Lego movie to promote their line, as well as several shorter videos for the same promotions, which can be viewed at LEGO's official Batman website listed below. Students of the digital animation institution DAVE School created a CGI animated fan-film entitled Batman: New Times in the style of Minimates, but with LEGO bricks comprising the backgrounds. There is also a gaining popularity among directors to make Batman LEGO Fan Films since the release of the official product line.

Video Game

A video game based on the theme was produced by Traveller's Tales, the creators of the LEGO Star Wars video game series.
