LEGO Movie, The

The LEGO Movie is an animated movie released in theaters February 7, 2020. The cast includes Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson. The film is a Warner Brothers, Village Roadshow Pictures production in cooperation with LEGO.

The movie is primarily CGI but unlike most LEGO animations the movements of the minifigs are more limited and true to real-life experience. Trailers for the movie feature renderings that are hard to distinguish from traditional stop motion animation using LEGO elements. While it was rumoured that this is because the filmmakers used some stop-motion for some scenes it was simply a matter of closely working with LEGO to ensure the CGI was true to the medium^gee. The film also features some live-action segments.

Plot Synopsis (Spoilers)

The town of Bricksburg is under the control of the evil CEO of Octan, President Business (voiced by Will Ferrell), who seeks to take over the world and stop the free-form creativity of all builders by the use of a super-weapon called The KRAGLE. A resistance movement of Master Builders led by Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), search for a hero to save them. An ordinary minifigure named Emmet (Chris Pratt) encounters agent Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) after hours on the construction site where he works. After Emmet accidentally discovers the piece of resistance (Lego: The Piece of Resistance was an early alternate working title of the film^var.) Wyldstyle tells the clumsy and incompetent construction worker that he is the Master Builder who has been prophesied to save the universe.

Pursued by a police minifigure with a dual-personality known as Good Cop/Bad Cop (Liam Neeson) Wyldstyle and Emmet escape into a network of tunnels that connect Bricksburg with other themed areas. Pursued through Wild West they are attacked in Cloud Cuckoo Land where the forces of Lord Business break up a meeting of Master Builders and capture most of them.

Vitruvius, Emmet and Wyldstyle are joined by Captain Metalbeard (Nick Offerman), Batman (Will Arnett) and Benny (Charlie Day) a Classic Spaceman. The small band attacks the headquarters building of Lord Business and attempt to release their comrades and stop the deployment of The KRAGLE.

In the fight with Lord Business Emmet is cast out of the universe through a black hole where he comes in contact with the man upstairs (Will Ferrell in a live action sequence) and his son Finn (Jadon Sand). The man upstairs is clearly an AFOL who has built a huge layout in his basement. In an attempt to keep everything the way he wants it, he has begun to use Krazy Glue ( aka the KRAGLE: KRAzy GLuE) to glue his MOCs. Finn has been playing with his father's LEGO collection making typically childish mash-ups that cross themes. Finn returns Emmet to the LEGO Universe and convinces his father to play with him building fun, swooshable models.

In the LEGO Universe, Emmet is reunited with his friends and Lord Business' plan is defeated.
